when president obama came into office, the stimulus was part of his agenda. as you look at the financial situation, is there talk of big spending right now? guest: there is talk of job training and infrastructure -- from this increased revenue. is that something congress can agree on? i think that in this climate of austerity, as people are starting to think about the deficit, i do not think we will necessarily see a large-scale stimulus like the one we have before. there is a fascinating statistic and a national journal story that they now spend $7 on programs for senior citizens and elderly people for every $1 it spends on young people. and at $1 goes to everything from education, student loans, job training. so the federal government spending at this point is really skewed towards taking care of the older population of versus helping the younger ones succeed. that'll be a tricky thing moving forward. alternately, to take care of older people you need to of younger people have a good jobs and making good wages. host: tom, maryland, on our line for democrats

president obama has given temporary protection to dreamers. let's pass the law. let's do the right thing for young people like carlos all over the united states. i've listened carefully to some of the statements made after the election by those on the other side of the aisle, many who opposed the dream act from the start. i'm heartened and encouraged that so many are now speaking out in favorable terms of doing something finally for young people like carlos. let's get this done. this used to be a very bipartisan measure. filibusters have stopped it year after year, but we can pass it and we should pass it. in 2007 the first time the dream act came to a vote on the floor of the senate, 52 senators, a bipartisan majority, voted for it. but still the republican filibuster stopped us. we didn't get the 60 votes that we needed. three years later, in december of 2010, the dream act was again considered on the floor of the senate. the gallery was filled with dreamers in their caps and gowns. it was an inspiring sight to see them in these seats. 55 senators voted for the
